Carving- All carving is done by hand and although it can be an expensive process the final appearance is something which is difficult to reproduce by casting the ornament. We use a variety of timbers for the carving but find the African timber Obeche better for the application of finishes.

Gilding- Again the gilt finishes are applied by hand and not machine. The gold comes in leaf form three inches square and is applied piece by piece using the water gilding method. Occasionally the leaf is placed onto an oil base (oil gilding) but the final finish is not as effective as the better quality water gilding.
